More robust stream identification for Australian electricity meters
An activity stream is a collection of activity over time that our platform uses to both calculate disclosed emissions and model projections. An activity stream can be an electricity meter, a water meter, a set of supplier invoices, etc. Each stream has two important characteristics:
Identifiable: You can easily understand which activity sources contribute to it.
Predictable: The collection of activities is representative of future activity.
For Australian electricity bills, the National Metering Identifier (or NMI) best identifies which stream it contributes to. It is a unique 10 or 11-digit number assigned to every electricity connection point in Australia.
We have improved the way we identify the stream an electricity bill containing a NMI contributes to by representing NMIs in a standard and consistent way regardless of how it is displayed in bills β with or without checksum, upper or lower case, with or without spaces/hyphens, they all get assigned to the correct stream with that NMI.
This eliminates cases of duplicate streams resulting in a more accurate inventory.
